Understand the Structure ::
Next Gen Gallery considers:
~Gallery~ A container for your photos. If you divide your photos into categories you will most likely want a ‘Gallery’ for each collection.
~Album~ An album would be a collection of one or more Galleries
Workflow ::
Create a Page to Display your Work ::
If you have Next Gen Gallery setup already, have created Galleries and Albums then you can use the handy new button in your visual editor (if you use the visual editor)
If you don’t use the visual editor and have yet to add Galleries and Albums…
1.) Lets create a page to display your first Album (which will have a gallery of images within) – Manage>>Pages>>Create New Page – Give your page a title that represents its content. How about “My Next Gen Gallery” Now add the code to draw in the album/s:
Substitute the number one for ID if this is your fist go with Next Gen Gallery. NGG will assign ID’s in succession starting with 1. :: Click Publish.
[Update July 2008] Alternatively with the new version of NextGen Gallery if you have Albums and Gallery/s setup you can use the Edit Gallery screen to create a page.
2.) Lets create a page to display your gallery of images – Manage>>Pages>>Create New Page -
Give your page a title that represents its content. How about “My Cool Photos of Something”
Now add the code to draw in the cool photos: [ gallery=ID ] (note I left a space so don’t copy and paste, write your own) Substitute the number one for ID if this is your fist go with Next Gen Gallery. NGG will assign ID’s in succession starting with 1.
You can also use the handy tool available from your editor to add NextGen Gallery media. See image above for visual reference of where this button is.
Click Publish.
One can have a page to display one or more Album containers of one or more Galleries of work, a page to display a single photo, a page to display a collection of photos (gallery).
Leave Manage Pages and head over to Gallery to get some Albums and Galleries setup.
3.) Create a Gallery and upload photos. Gallery>>Add Gallery – Use one of the links to get images into your gallery. I chose to ftp a folder of images up then tell NGG where they were.
Create additional galleries as needed for your other collections.
4.) Gallery>>Manage Gallery – Edit titles and descriptions for your new photos by accessing the editing interface through the Manage Galleries link in your admin. You will see your gallery with links to edit, delete etc. Click the ‘edit’ link. First select the the page you created to display your collection of images in the Page Link to drop down box. (your page should show up in the list with the title you gave it in step 2 above). Edit Titles and Descriptions as you please. Save your work.
![]()
Note: check the ID of the newly created gallery. If it is your first one it should be 1, the same ID we used in step 2 above. If it is something else then be sure they are the same in both places.
5.) Create an album to house this new Gallery of images by accessing the Album link from your admin. Enter the name for your new album and click update.
6.) Access the Select Album drop down box to select the new album you just created. Drag and drop your gallery of images into the big blue box (very cool) . Click update.
![]()
Note : Confirm the Album Page ID corresponds to the ID in step 1 above.

I used to have this plugin running but after upgrading to WP 2.3.1 as well as NGG 0.74 the galleries seem to have been lost. The gallery menues do not work under the “gallery” tab and it is a mess!
I have uninstalled and re-installed without any changes
-
Just a quick thank you for all the effort put into this plugin. It has made my life a lot easier after I lost my main site after the host went to the wall. I was looking everywhere for a simple gallery presentation system and this is it
best regards

Under “Create new page” I select a page and click “Save Pages,” but the selection reverts back to “Main page (no parent).”
How can I fix this to save my gallery to a page ID?
-
Great article. When you first download the gallery, it does take a little time to get used to it’s functionality…and then to understand how it generates the code on the back-end.
If anyone was wondering, here is a quick tutorial on how to integrate the NEXTGEN Gallery into your blog’s header

I want all on one page, pictures on top, galleries beneath. And no thickbox popup. Someone seen stg that direction? Tnx!
-
I see that your article is a year old.Have you been using the latest version of nextGen?
Your demo images pop up so nice and big whereas mine(no matter what I do in the Options page)pop up so dinky.I could use some tips.I’ve tried resetting the images dimensions but nothing ever works.I’m really close to dropping this plugin because I need to be able to have a say in how big the pop up window is and how large my images will be inside it. -
Hi,
I’m using NG Gallery and I want to add more than 10 images in a single gallery. How can I modify that number of images? Because I can’t do this, I tried to use 2 galleries with 10 different images (from different folders) but the gallery display “double 10 images” (I mean those 10 images from the first gallery folder, twice). If anyone can help me ? Thanks in advance! -
I installed the nextgen plugin for a friend of mine. He has his wordpress installation not in the root.
All his images are on
Is it still possible to use the ‘import folder’ function? But how? as I cannot point to dir1 as I get the message that it cannot be found.
-
Hmmmm, never thought of that. I wonder if you could go from the root:
/home/someaccount/public_html/dir1or have you tried ../dir1
I haven’t tried them, just some thoughts.
-
@Flash Buddy
Good one, but no, I then get the message:
/home/someaccount/public_html//home/someaccount/public_html/dir1but your seconds suggestion worked! but I had to write:
..//dir1
so 2 slashes!
great! thank you!

Something like:

Hi there,
Alright,I used this plugin and came across one error that took me weeks to ask for support but still didn’t receive any.Well here’s my query:
I’m someone new to the blogging one but I do have a long-time experience with WordPress.com.I started off with a small website there…and now I have my own-hosted blog.Thing is when I followed all steps and installed the NextGen Gallery…everything went smooth. But when I try to “Add Gallery” after putting in the name, the text box goes blank after hitting Enter. When I go to Manage Galleries, there is no gallery that I can select, but when I check the ftp manager,I can see that a directory is created under /wp-content/gallery/(gallery name) .I tried uploading images to this directory, but still doesn’t work. Please help me guys!!!
PS:-Alex Rabe, could you please help me out with this,I’ve tagged my post in WP Support forums but no one has turned up on me.
Thanks!

hiya,
first of all thanks for all the help from all you guys.
When i use [singlepic] tag in a post eberything work and looks fine except 1 thing: in the feed and google search results (see the bottom one, “Suzanna’s success story | petimi blog” for example on: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-GB%3Aofficial&hs=KOP&q=suzanna+success&btnG=Search&meta= )Not sure if it’s the NextGen gallery malfunction as i have the same issue with jlanguagae plugin. The [english] tag is also shown as you can see.
any help would be much appreciated.
thanks -
